About our club
2008 was our 25th anniversary as a Masters Swimming Club. So presently Masterton Masters have swum a few million lengths and have earned their flippers as one of the original Masters Swim Clubs in New Zealand.
From inception there have been a few members that have stayed the course. True Masters swimmers. As a club we started with an outdoor pool which was only available for the summer season. Over the years an indoor 5 lane pool was added and then recently an additional indoor seven lane pool. Both heated – bliss!
The newer pool (Trust House Pool), housed in the Genesis Recreation Centre, was built over the original outdoor 33.3m pool. However, outside there is still a shallow 10m square pool which has an awesome slide attached to it. In addition there is a small children’s paddling pool and a dive pool. These outdoor summer facilities, coupled with the two indoor pools probably give Masterton one of the better equipped swimming pool complexes in New Zealand. For a small town, it is very beneficial.
The Masterton Masters have one formal session each week ~ Friday 6-7pm ~ and one informal session ~ Sunday baptism 8 - 9am ~. Other informal sessions are held each morning and swimmers go about their personal schedules. Members are aged from a youthful 28 to a young 65 years of age.
Our small club can boast one of our swimmers holding a current World Masters record, four World Masters titles and three NZ Masters records. Two others hold NZ records.
In October 2006 and 2008 we hosted the North Island short course championships.
